@Sandra. Thanks for posting gemini://idiomdrottning.org/pr.

I never considered the additional negative environmental damage from crypto mining and the summary of other's thought was enlightening.

PoW == Proof of Waste :(

@Natris1979

I recently heard some studies a lot of bad things (anti-MMP-vaxx, climate denialism, young Earth creationism) is not based on a "knowledge deficiency". Instead, people generally do know both sides of the story, they just believe their side more.

I believe that this doesn't apply to crypto yet. I believe that there are many people who are fans of cryptocurrency who just doesn't know how bad PoW has turned out to be, that they're just not aware. The media reporting on it has been so bad and non-critical, at least here.

So it is still meaningful to just let people know some of these issues.

@Sandra @Natris1979 the more serious travesty is that we even let our energy supply be (in most places) predominantly be sources from fossil fuels in the first place because of the oil/coal lobby, if that was addressed decades ago like it could have been then this would be much less of a controversy

@lunch @Natris1979 You're right that the fossil lobby is horrible and is very responsible for so many past and future deaths, and is a much bigger enemy than crypto.

That said, even if we were on all wind and sun and rain energy, proof of work would still be bad, as I outline in the post.
