Just a little something that came to my mind that I just had to put to page...

What is my take? All of these things are video games

@SuricrasiaOnline What box would you put a VHS video game like the early Atmosfears in? Or the later, vaguely interactive, DVD releases?

@BestGirlGrace probably platform neutral, challenge purist/entertainement neutral

@SuricrasiaOnline i'd say i'm either entertainment/platform neutral or (console purist OR challenge purist)

@SuricrasiaOnline I'm so mad that I'm right in the middle and I just caught myself thinking "I guess a Wikipedia race sorta IS a video game..."

@SuricrasiaOnline entertainment/platform neutral but not both at once. Dragons lair and gone home are both video games, but a wikipedia race is not

@QueerGirlAudrey @SuricrasiaOnline What about Dr. Nim? Or does that fall into the very strange space of non-video computer games?

@QueerGirlAudrey Probably the first mass-market computer game... because it was implemented with a single-purpose computer built entirely out of plastic. It plays single-pile NIM... and will always beat you.

@keiyakins Oh I remember this video. Yeah that's a computer game technically, but not a videogame

@QueerGirlAudrey If I ever get a chance to challenge Death to a game for a life, I'm gonna challenge It to single-pile NIM. Don't specify the number of coins though, that way you can just slip out an extra if Death insists on you going first.

@SuricrasiaOnline Hm. My gut rules require it to be a game, and to have its rules 'scripted' in a way that doesn't require players to figure the outcome out themselves. RPG Maker is iffy, but I'd be willing to call it a video game. Dragon's Lair, Dark Souls, and Gone Home obviously are. A Wikipedia race isn't, but if you wrote a simple browser extension that ran the timer and recorded the links taken, it could be. The only other iffy one is the CYOA books... I think *some* are, but not all.

@SuricrasiaOnline Namely, those that add a sufficiently complex battle system might cease to be video games. Those that rely solely on choosing from the list of options and maybe writing down a list of items you get certainly are. In the middle, with relatively simple battle systems? It's muddy.

@SuricrasiaOnline i'm impressed with how little i agree with all of these--

@SuricrasiaOnline probably unsurprisingly so, i'm experience anarchist/media anarchist

@SuricrasiaOnline Where does the posting of that image fall on that grid? Middle-right?

D&D rant

@SuricrasiaOnline anarchist here. Hell, I'm in the "msoffice is a video game" camp (excel is SP, outlook is PvP).

@SuricrasiaOnline Platform neutral + Experience Anarchist = Wifi router config as a video game? Oh god!

@SuricrasiaOnline the thing about these chart memes is that it always feels like they're asking the wrong question. For me it's not classified by (x > a, y > b), but by x + y > a.

So Gone Home and Dragon's Lair are both videogames, but a Wikipedia race isn't.

It's a matter of distance from prototype examples.

@SuricrasiaOnline same with this - the BLT is the Prototype Sandwich, the sub and chip butty are clearly sandwiches, the chicken wrap/hot dog/ice cream sandwich are all not conventionally sandwiches but still sandwichOID enough that it feels questionable to say they're truly Non-Sandwiches, and beyond that they're just Definitely Not Sandwich.

@SuricrasiaOnline i wish netgear routers had a battle system so i could beat the shit out of them

@tom update from it: the company intranet is now pvp enabled

@SuricrasiaOnline btw...... can i ask u, my favourite isp, a very shameless question

@tom absolutely my dear child. any question you might have can be answered by the suricrasiaed onlined

@SuricrasiaOnline is there a chance of the Laptop Stickers ever coming back to the merch store? Not for free, of course.

I got a new computer and it doesn't feel properly connected without one

@tom probably! I actually have stickers to give away but they don't look the same as the old ones

@SuricrasiaOnline @tom I still have a sticker from the very first batch. I never used it because is is too beautiful *_*.

@SuricrasiaOnline where do I fit if I agree with Gone Home and Dragon's Lair being video games but not a Wikipedia race
