my advisor seriously asked if I could skype into a meeting with a potential student at 9:30 pm. no, what the fuck

my only 2018 resolution is to learn to make, and proceed to regularly make, bread. I think this is gonna do wonders for my quality of life.

In 2018 I will no longer be part of an executive board that requires me to run social events meaning that I can cut down on Facebook much more aggressively

i think if you could real-life mute the word "toxin" and you are not a toxicologist you would probably miss zero true statements

the year isn't over yet but this is the demographics of what I read this year (might sneak one more book in by New Year's) cybre.space/media/saUgofmsFN_l

my two goals for 2018 in terms of reading is (a) reread more of my past faves and (b) read more POC authors. so I've set two 100% contradictory goals, hooray

made a rando twitter account just so I have some way to extract screenshots from my Switch

if I'm going to listen to only one leftist podcast a week, what should it be?

Academia and political activism are both making me appreciate the importance of formalized processes. If I had a formal process for taking days off/managing the schedule it'd be clear when I was and wasn't available. As is, I'm left to things like "well, I guess probably I can make these holiday plans" and then people come along and want things from me on days when I was gonna be gone

my advisor sent me an email at like 2am in the morning being like "let's have a meeting tomorrow, sorry for leaving this so late!" well you're too late, I already made holiday-adjacent plans with family

Actually haven't really looked into it in 5e, so maybe it's a better situation

I have this really huge desire in me to play a balls-to-the-walls illusionist in a D&D game, but tbh I think it's usually a kind of shitty character in practice? It's very reliant on the DM making judgment calls on how your opponents react, which is a bad position to put the DM in. Instead of "save or die" it's "save or let's have a table argument about what ought to happen here"

making a resume more suited to the new field I'm trying to break into and it is very stresful (Prior Experience: Very Little)

super mario odyssey is such a joy and i can't wait to go home and jump around and get some moons

there's gotta be such a fun linguistics paper to be written about highly-technical English/other-language hybrid, inspired by the loud conversation ten of my colleagues are having in Chinese with quantum info jargon sprinkled around randomly

sure there's the eugenics wars and stuff but the real dark part of the Star Trek timeline is apparently cold earl grey tea becomes a thing sometime between now and the 24th century
