What happens when a Mastodon instance is revived without backups, specifically from the POV of someone who follows people on that instance?

for real though i think we would all have to make new accounts as it's seeming very, very likely that a.w.e.'s server was wiped. although god knows the cause.
as for the old versions of our accounts and old toots that propagated over the fediverse... i don't know.

@zigg well, it _used to be_ (back when we used OStatus) that everything would get kinda fucked up for a period of about a week - your statuses didn't show up on other people's instances until they refresh their subscriptions.
@Gargron has this happened to anyone recently? what happens now that we're on AP?

Looks like the new instance with few bugs. It seems now that I am on some peoples following list, but this doesn't show up on my list of followers.
Not sure if thhose people can see my toots in their timeline.

Excellent question!
The users on that instance become zombies in real life immediately and the world is thrown into chaos.
(hoping someone answers this for real, hopefully this was at least chuckleworthy)
