@xyzzy
hey parents, if you're ever considering teasing your children, consider this advice:
don't
@xyzzy I feel like I've sort of been a bad parent in this regard sometimes 😞
@zigg i mean, i'm not claiming to be an expert on parenting. i'm just speaking from experience here. it's really made me feel like my parents don't respect me. and when i was a kid i was bullied so coming home to what seemed like shades of the same bullshit i was getting at school was beyond exhausting.
It's something that is very easy to do too much. My daughter is like me, very touch-sensitive and jumpy with it. So no surprise tickling for either of us, unless you want an involuntary elbow in the face.
Your point on bullying is spot on. You're already in a position of complete power over your kid, you need to be the one person they can rely on absolutely and without any doubt.
@xyzzy I feel like there's some nuance to be considered with the topic but in general, good rule of thumb. A subset of that surprisingly difficult concept for many parents of "be considerate of your children's feelings".
@xyzzy I don't know why it's so hard for so many people to recognize that children are people too. 😒
@InspectorCaracal yeah...
i'm not the most fond of children but kids in general tend to really like me because i just.. talk to them like i would talk to anything else. i guess they really like that. i remember how much i hated being talked down to when i was little.
@xyzzy THANK YOU
