Like, WOW takes the time to introduce you to what your race is like, you spend a good couple hours just getting a feel for them and their place in the world and then you set off for your faction's capitol and are instantly doing regional quests that directly impact the world as a whole
In FF14, you're, uh. In a city with a confusing layout and given no context for anything you're doing, you just show up and are there now
@witchfynder_finder people straight up insult you for like the first 10 levels, it's such a weird intro
@witchfynder_finder LOL I did notice that while starting FF14, it seems your class is more important to start?
@witchfynder_finder I do like that in WoW you can just jump straight in to dungeons, which are my favorite part of MMOs. A couple hours in to FF and I don't think I've unlocked them yet
@witchfynder_finder will absolutely restate that the best way I’ve found to start ffxiv is streaming to a friend or something who’s already into it and can give advice and make all the jokes and stuff haha
@kat Oh yeah on the off-chance I do end up actually giving FF14 another try I will absolutely be in a VC with someone who knows what they're doing lmao
@witchfynder_finder oh yeah early game ffxiv was NOT fun for me (as someone who had never played an mmo before). i eventually got thru it on my second try but like the first times going through dungeons/trials and a lot about early ARR (and even later ARR and HW) were just flat out unenjoyable for me
i also dont find the setting terribly interesting even now except in the sense of "i have spent a lot of time here now so its familiar"
so its definitely not like, an unusual or spicy take i think
@witchfynder_finder god I wish there was a good Lalafell centric story 😭 idc about any of the other “races” I’m here to be a potato
