@dzuk Twitter has its own problems, not least of which being a feeling of just shouting into the void, but at least you can find people who share lots of your interests.

@amphetamine @witchfynder_finder @dzuk personally, one thing from Old Twitter (i think it's been kinda gutted since i left tbh) that i miss was the indie comix scene there that i followed, because even though i can't comix worth crap they were just the warmest most wholesome little community that never made you feel alienated or like you didn't belong

the tech scene on Masto has never felt that way; it's all injokes and such

@amphetamine @witchfynder_finder @dzuk there was definitely this feeling of like… comics are an old scene with a lot of bias both within and outside of it, but all the indie comix people i followed had a very "we're all in this together and let's have a good time despite all that" mindset and would rep each other's stuff and support the cool things they were all doing and just bring so much positivity and light to the platform tbh

@kibi @amphetamine @dzuk That sounds so good. That's the kind of shit I'd want to see on Mastodon. Tech people are already here and I don't necessarily want to take their place away from them, but Mastodon needs a better way to market itself so that Other People will show up, I think. I would just like to have the option of finding people who don't have a fav Linux distro, I guess.

@amphetamine @kibi @witchfynder_finder yeah, I'm too tired to really have much to say and I think these things summed it up. I'm glad I have Mastodon because I've gained so much and so much confidence. I wouldn't have even considered being on Twitter if I wasn't on Mastodon beforehand.

But yeah, it's very much sigh and Twitter is just reminding me of things I'd like more of on Masto but I very much think those possibilities are frozen out for the meantime.

I wouldn't have necessarily thought about it until cassolotl's Medium post just brought a lot of subconscious things I was thinking about and things I have experienced many times on Mastodon more to the foreground.

Even if there's a fork and even if the ActivityPub issues are somehow worked out, and blocklisting gets really good, you still have an entrenched tech community and a lot of techbros.

kibi has been very much an example of this, and i too am very close (a week or two) to being in a position where i can say more and do more

i dunno what that means for the structure of the network, but i feel like i have had enough tools for keeping the typical shit out of my feed too

@dzuk @kibi @witchfynder_finder everyone i've known here is someone i've come to think of very personally, and even after a year of pain that should make me "sadder and wiser" i actually still feel that way

@dzuk @amphetamine @witchfynder_finder i was going to write a loving roast of Mastodon a while back but didn't have time, but maybe the ground is still fertile for that discussion after all

i like Masto because i think it has the potential to offer communities to people who have never had one before, and those are really the people i care about

but there's definitely still work to be done there imo
