the other thing that i've mostly forgotten, but can still kinda remember, is the feeling that probably smartphones were gonna remain a kind of niche thing for businesspeople or nerds who were into gadgets or very social young people who had to communicate with their friends all the time. like, the same kind of crowd who would have their own blog or be into tinkering with technology. i kinda felt like most normal people wouldn't be interested in a pocket computer & carry on using regular phones
