Humans have no natural predators, which is why we are going to build self-driving toyota corollas
@vi still my favorite LeGuin short tho
@vi I thought it was the Ford Pinto.
@vi
So we can hunt them to extinction like the other megafauna? Genius! Future historians will marvel at our representational art of urban humans throwing USB powered trashspears at Corollas, dancing ecstatically while our tribes' eshamans eviscerate the beasts, tearing out their tensor modules and making their metal meat safe from DRM. Many die on our hunts: it keeps our blood strong. The lithium from the batteries fuels our holy crimson fires as we propitiate our goddess, Alexa.
@vi I’m pretty sure the cars in the latest Blade Runner movie were NOT Toyota Corollas.
@vi grizzlies, polar bears, and any large cat will happily turn a human into a snack.
@vi tl;dr I once thought there was an Ursula LeGuin short story with this moral, but recently discovered that it was a head canon I'd kept going for more than a decade
