@vantablack It also deserves pointing out that it seams like they have pretty good autonomy and freedom over their work life.

@Phynne4theWin @vantablack and that particular metric is the BIG thing for me that dictates whether i can feel happy or even tolerate working somewhere.

"jobs nobody wants to do" and anarchism

@vantablack hell yeah. Imo, people get something out of doing work that's important. If it's silly, meaningless and you have no connection to it AND it doesn't provide you a real living? That's when it sucks

@vantablack The example I often give from (admittedly) limited experience is garbage collection. The job itself is pretty okay (and hanging on the back of the truck is exactly as fun as you think it is). It only sucks because you're forced to work long hours for shitty pay on a zero-hours contract.

@vantablack this has great anti-work post-left vibes. Nothing has to feel like work when there's no boss and you have control over your job.

@thufie @vantablack exactly this, and the converse: even things that would otherwise be really enjoyable and fulfilling become drudgery whenever management gets involved. Turn a hobby you love in to a career and you'll learn to hate everything about it if you have a boss.

@vantablack I can definitely relate to having a sense of pride in knowing something I do is important for society, even if it's something that isn't always pleasant. I can't say I'd sign up to shovel tampons but good on the comrade.

re: "jobs nobody wants to do" and anarchism

@vantablack Adding to what others have said in your mentions: so many people do things that are necessary for others, even though it's not always too pleasant. Free domestic work is proof of this. You just have to have a sense of community.
