Bodhi is awesome, though. This machine cost me $35 second hand. Ubuntu dragged on it. Bodhi is zippy AF. Peppermint isn't quite so zippy, but it's pretty, and I like pretty, so.
@Trav1sty it's really really bare bones and lightweight. On an older machine or a netbook without a lot of ram, it's bloody marvellous. Also, I don't need much on a netbook, it's mainly my typewriter. Couple of text editors, a browser... I spend a lot of time removing a whole heap of stuff I don't use with any other distro.
@vamp I wonder how they made Ubuntu lightweight? That's an accomplishment and a half right there. That's why I like Arch too. None of the cruft in there, only what you need/want.
When was the last time you used a Windows computer? What do you think of Win 10 as a Linux user?
@Trav1sty I haven't used Win10. Several years ago I helped a friend with her new Win8 machine and it was not an experience I was keen to relive. Occasionally get on hubby's Win7 to sort something out (he's a gamer) if he's about to throw the thing out the window ;)
@vamp Win 7 was my favourite version of Win. 10 is where I drew the line and replaced Every computer in my house with Linux.
Let me tell you, Linux on a Surface tablet was a bear to get running well.
Why not switch him to Linux? Steam works well.
@Trav1sty I won't let him upgrade from Win7 LOL Only reason he won't switch is because his One True Game doesn't have a Linux version. If he ever breaks his Windows, though, I've told him he's gonna have to play in a VM.
@Trav1sty I use Peppermint more though. Pretty + Ice (SSB manager). My son uses Bodhi though. He's 8, and it's been good for him having to learn how to do stuff (and his computer is pretty crappy)
@vamp I like peppermint. right now I don't have a Linux install for the first Tim in 10 years. I'm a little hesitant to dual boot my windows box with win 10....also it's the first ufei boot machine I've ever owned and although I turned off ufei my first try at installing Linux (with ufei still engaged) backfired badly.
@Zaphodbblx UEFI scares the hell outta me, tbh. Good thing I like to buy second hand computers, always pick the Win7 ones so I don't have to deal with it. I bought my big laptop new, though. Just a year or so ago? Win7, but UEFI. Installed Ubuntu as a dual boot (saving the win7 for hubs games), hell of a mission. *shudder*
@vamp What about Bohdi do you like so much? I don't know much about it. I've been an Arch guy for years.
