For those newbies complaining that people (possibly malicious) can co-opt their identity on every other Mastodon instance, this is called a Sybil attack.
To prevent this sort of attack would come at the cost of either privacy or self-sovereignty, forming a decentralized identity trilemma as described by @MaciekLaskus@twitter.com
In other words, it's a trade-off and you can't have everything (all the time).
