Does anybody know any project to develop #AI being #OpenSource, independent from corporate or state resources, possible to deploy in #anarchist context?
I see several possible uses for #AAI, from anarchist chatbots through secure online translation to dynamic synthesis of intellectual _corpus_ of anarchist tradition.

Anybody?

@Petros
came to mind but I'm not sure this is what you're looking for: github.com/openai

is another big one.

You are looking for open projects not being developed by corporate overlords? The other question is what level of abstraction of AI? Most of the popular frameworks just give you a toolbox for the maths. If you are seeking chatbots and other language features then it will require which is typically adjacent to AI frameworks.

@uranther

We just have some discussion (during community breadmaking), focused more on the needs (as I wrote in OP). So perhaps the proper question is "What do we need to be able to have such functionalities in our hands?" . And of course the first answer will be: a small group of people who know what is what. 😉

@Petros
To my knowledge, there are no ready-made solutions for what you're looking. All of them are hard problems that require domain expertise and familiarity in how to apply the building blocks. For example, you can slap at your corpus and have a vague understanding of the language content, but to make it reliably useful requires a lot of tuning and more creative NLP techniques that are effective for your particular application, discovered through trial and error.

@Petros
My understanding basically stops there. I've never built one of these applications although I plan to. I also have plenty of data that I want my machine to categorize and understand for me. You don't need 'the cloud' or proprietary software unless you want ready-made solutions, e.g. language translation or image recognition. That is to say, you are paying for their training set, neural network weightings, and a convenient API.

@uranther

Sounds like a good long-term project. I will start looking for people. "We" (people adhering to anarchist movement) cannot ignore this line of work. Otherwise, we will be facing another tool of exploitation, without anything to stop it. Anarcho-#transhumanism and #solarpunk may be he areas to look into.

@Petros
Accurate. AI is the magic used to control the masses. At an institutional level, these algorithms are sophisticated beyond any single person's - or even the institution's - capacity of understanding. More importantly, they are opaque and proprietary which makes their basic defensability a trade secret. Already we are seeing companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, and Google relinquish themselves of responsibility and understanding. See: Google gorillas, and M$ Twitter bot.
