Somehow every hacker has a cool personal website
and I'm sitting here serving hand-written placeholder files.
One day I need to switch away from html written in nano and towards some sort of JAM stack.
@saxnot OK what's a JAM stack? Java, Apache, MySQL? 😬
@uranther markdown, git and static-side generator
basically your website is just a bunch of css-sytled markdown which you can update by commiting to a repo. There's no advanced CI and all of it is stateless and boring.
The perfect fit for a personal webpage IMHO
@uranther https://jamstack.org/
but yes you can build more refined things with JS. But tbh I just want to serve content and not open up an ecommerce store or something.
CMS and all the other stuff sure has it's purpose. They're not for me, who just wants to ship files via HTTP.
@uranther TIL that "JAM" stands for "JavaScript, API, Markdown"
ech. All I want is something basic that runs without trouble and is reliable
(namely, not Joomla)
@saxnot This doesn't look particularly helpful. They are still advocating for high complexity.
At this point, I sympathize more with the Makefile-based static sites. Or just Neocities and git. For now, it seems most sane to throw a few Markdown files through Hugo in a barebones theme.
@saxnot #Neocities has a #Bitcoin Lifer Plan where you can send them US$100 worth of BTC and get Supporter status forever.
They have CLI tools, enforced HTTPS, and your site is also stored on #IPFS. ... So I would say they are more reliable than hosting your site on S3 or GitHub.
(Not trying to sell it. Just wanted to share what I have found.)
