also another thing mastodon really needs is a way to tell what network software a user is coming from. under the user hamburger menu there should be something like "Info" that says whether they are a native mastidonian or GNU Social user or a Friendica user etc. We need to know this to know what features each one supports as all these networks are a bit different.

this is why i should never be trusted around mass-follow utilities

oh fuck i think i crashed that great brand new mastodon instance, fuck

don't be disheartened by the phrase "twitter clone". I still remember that period of the 90s when there was just the one First Person Shooter and a load of Doom Clones

if y'all on here haven't seen much of me it's because i'm mostly at @typhlosion

hopefully @chr will work with @vahnj to UNITE THE TWO TRIBES and federate cybre and awoo

1. "mastodon" is a piece of software that runs on a server. There's a lot of servers that run it & u can follow ppl on other servers.

2. When u follow someone from another server, your server receives their toots.

3. The federated TL is all public toots that the server receives, ie all of the toots from everyone that ppl on your server follow.

4. ERGO: if u want to see more toots in the fed TL, follow + get other ppl on your server to follow ppl from other servers!

@typhlosion old records mostly

also i've been accumulating them for about 7 or 8 years now

To those of you who are putting political posts behind the content warning option - THANK YOU.

Ultimately Mastodon's killer feature is that it's a public good that someone built because they thought it needed to exist and not a startup someone built because they wanted to get rich quick selling other people's data.

like, if you click on a user, maybe you can click on the followers tab and it shows the mutuals first

useful mastodon feature request: on the fed timeline, have some way to see who you're following who's following a person who makes a post on the fed timeline

this could be as easy as having a little subsection of a user display showing a list of your mutuals my only attempt at an amiga tune previously was this short wee ditty

hope to do more 4ch stuff soon

@typhlosion - it took me a few iterations of the explanation before I fully grokked it. Now I just think of it as "friend of a friend" networking.

@typhlosion If this really takes off that will make a great t-shirt someday.

@Vonk - more precisely, the federated timeline on the instance you join will show you all of the local posts, and the posts of people being followed by everyone on your local instance.
