Moving from having Slack, Discord, and Zulip open as Electron apps to pinned tabs in Firefox dropped my background memory usage by 4 GB and my passive system load from about 1.5 to about 0.8

Electron is Bad Actually

Out of genuine curiosity, are you running a low-memory system?

@banjofox not really, I have 16GB, but the more is available for filesystem caching the faster my compile times are

Even a 4 SSD RAID has its limits.

@tindall electron developers suffer from the "i only assigned 1 hour of homework" fallacy. wow you sure did only take up 1gb of ram and thats not a lot out of my total ram, but every electron app takes 1 gb of my ram and that quickly adds up.

also fuck people with 4gbs of ram i guess.

@oct2pus @tindall "I-only-assigned-1-hour-of-homework-why-is-it-so-hard fallacy" lol so true :blobcatcoffee:

@tindall oh, I switched the chromium reluctantly a few years ago because using a number of pinned web apps on firefox was killing my juice
