@tether “code-of-conduct free zone” ... ohhhhh fuuuuck this

@tether To blame everyone who volunteers to organize CCC for the bad behavior of one man is unjustified in my estimation. However, I do think it would be a good idea to have some acknowledgement during the conference of what happened in the Tor project and how they dealt with it. This might help other communities to do better and avoid mistakes.

A lot of it I think boils down to not having any one person have too much power or influence within a group. Maintain a balance of power. Avoid hero worship and cultism. Cultism always has bad outcomes. This also applies more generally in politics.

@bob the bl9g post & most of my comments are about ccc orga, not angels necessarily.

Balance of power is good, but only if there is a corresponding "route" for calling out the things which are shit. This is a form of transparency - of voicing the elephant in the room - but it's too often ignored by habit, fear and social fear of saying something different. If there's no culture to call it out, then you need a few really, *really* bold people to step in. People are people, and those bold ones are hard to find, and harder to keep. But they're the heroes.

@bob @tether I see it more as CCC being slow to respond or making mistakes dealing with much wider problems within European society (that affects us too here in UK) than anything "bad/evil" in CCC themselves - at the same time it reminds me of the lad who was entrusted to watch train signals in Bavaria a few years back but instead was playing on his mobile phone; and the subsequent *actual* train wreck (he now sits in jail charged with criminal neglect!).
