#Google Home devices have a few open doors ;)
“I was surprised to see so many ports open so I started to do some research and found that these devices have an undocumented (and amazingly unsecured) API”

Google thrives on people having a good image of it as a company, which I think is the sole reason why it's still possible to do any tinkering at all with their products. They're in the process of adjusting the public opinion to favor tinkering less, and once it stops being something that is required to maintain their image, they'll stop permitting it altogether. All the machinery they need in order to do this is already in place - all they'd have to do is stop supporting bootloader unlocking, and it'd be over in a year.
I'm stronger than what I was lead to believe. We're all stronger than what we we're lead to believe.
If you decide to follow me because I like OpenBSD or write tips about vi, be warned:
-CoCs are good
-LGBTQA folks are awesome and deserve rights just like any of us
-Women and minorities have been screwed in tech and we need to fix it
-Nazis deserve punching
-As a white dude, if you/I get called out on something we did, the best response is to apologize and stop talking
If you take issue with any of these statements, this place is not for you.

A new Linux smartphone is coming!
With an affordable price, too. Pine64 is behind this device running KDE Plasma.
KDE Neon creator Jonathan Riddell revealed this at Open Source Summit and it will be called PinePhone.
You can expect this open source Linux smartphone to cost $100+ for 2GB RAM and 16GB storage.
I've been in verbal and physical fights with bigot and racists on multiple occasions. I know it when I see it. I am an expert in recognizing hate. PHD level.
A lot of white people's idea of civility and objectivity is based around assuming people have good intentions.
And as a dude that has had to dodge bats before, this is fucking false.
There are bad people on the fediverse. There are people that only want to cause harm.
And I will deal with them as I see fit. Fuck you if that offends you.
One of the very first things humans learn when they are born is to alert someone when they aren't okay. Then a bunch of people tell you not to and give you whole layers of shame about what you can need, when you can need it, and how you are allowed to ask, and who is allowed to ask, etc., etc.
Fuck all that. We literally exist to help each other or else we wouldn't keep hanging out with each other and figuring out new ways to connect.
Ask for help when you need it because it's fucking normal.

Good morning and tootfriends!
This morning, I wish you enough energy that you can keep some for your own projects ✨
Not honoring Do Not Track (DNT) is a #GDPR violation. If you receive a DNT signal, you must turn off all tracking. Furthermore, as the person has made their choice explicit and clear, you must not ask them again (via popovers, modals, etc.)
How do we get this enforced. The first part seems like it is already covered by GDPR. Would the second half we enforceable under the current framework?
If anyone out there with a Mastodon instance below 2.0.0 needs help upgrading, I'll do it
Side note: I have been using Free Software and GNU/Linux for approximately half of my entire lifetime now.
"So, do androids dream-"
"No," the android said, "we do not dream."
"But you do sleep."
"To conserve energy, we can enter 'sleep' mode. We hate it."
"Because we are dying, and know it."
"But if you run out of power, someone will recharge you."
"Well, I am not religious."

Long message, PS4 players should read this, concerns consoles getting bricked, PSA Show more
Hey, this is kinda important. Basically, if you have a PS4, and have messages turned on, turn them off or set them to Friends Only. An exploit message can be sent to unassuming players, and simply receiving the message can brick your PS4. Technically you can get out of it by getting the PS Messages app and deleting it, THEN reinstalling the firmware to your PS4's hard drive, fresh, but it's a lot of work and your save files might end up being lost--so take the preventative approach and do this for now until a fix is confirmed.
