Better Blocker for iOS 12 is now live.
Two weeks ago, I wrote that we wanted to radically simplify Better and widen its reach (https://ar.al/2018/08/27/better-blocker-two-year-review-and-thoughts-on-the-future/). With this release, we took the first steps towards that goal. We distilled the app to its essentials (taking it from 44MB to 11MB in the process) & lowered the price to the lowest tier on the App Store ($0.99/£0.99/€1.09).
Here’s to bringing the Better web to more people.
Meanwhile, the EU has voted to kill the Internet as we know it and possibly aid in creating an even bigger surveillance machine in the process.
Civil disobedience is the way forward on this one. We redouble our efforts to create decentralised alternatives and if they’re deemed illegal by this myopic legislation, so be it. Fuck ’em. We go to jail if we need to.
If you had any illusions that the battle for personhood and human rights would be easier in our age, think again.
How birdsite feels: I need to be more popular so people will care about me
How the fediverse feels: I want to find new friends and share stuff with them, because everyone already cares
Since moving here, my mental attitude has improved drastically. I no longer feel the need to win some arbitrary popularity contest to feel validated.
Thanks for being here, guys.
Global Warming is a serious threat to humanity. It is primarily caused by waste products from fossil fuel usage.
I don't usually see people over here talking about it. And I saw this story on how peoples behaviors don't match the severity of the threat.
For what its worth, I have turned down several opportunities to go to conferences because it would involve flying.
Have a uterus? Well, you'll be standing in a giant isle of locked doors where you have to hit a button and then stand amd wait for someone to allow you the privilege of buying something.
I stood around for 10 minutes and gave up.
What the fuck is happening in the trash country? THIS IS A GROCERY STORE?!?!
A reminder on minimums Show more
Consent is the bare minimum.
Tolerance is the bare minimum.
Recognizing pronouns is the bare minimum
Listening is the bare minimum
Want to be better than the bare minimum? Engage with respect. Accept with empathy. De-prioritize yourself until the person you're engaging with is EQUAL in importance to you.

Good morning! Eat the rich, punch the Nazis, trebuchet the TERFs, and abolish those prisons! 😘
Hey dudes of Mastodon! Can you leave the mansplaining on those other sites and not bring it here? It's easy! When you see a post from a woman you don't know:
✔️ Be friendly or insightful. Both is better!
✔️ Assume she knows the subject, even if you think she just made an error
✔️ Ask good-faith questions about her context
✔️ "Yes! And..."
❎ Give unsolicited advice
❎ Act like she knows nothing about the subject
❎ Presume she wants to (or has any responsibility to) debate you.
just a reminder
makes it easier to read for everyone, but especially so for folks with screen readers. if each work isn’t capitalized, their reader tries to read it as one word
be kind and willing to make small changes to make the fediverse more accessible for all
Cyberpunk is not transphobic, racist, misogynist, or any of that bullshit, in my book. It is anticapitalist, anti-authoritarian, and anti-fascist.
Punks punching Nazis was a common past-time of actual punks in the 70's 80's (Dead Kennedy's Nazi punks fuck off, etc.). Punk was intimately familiar with fighting fascism, they had a Doc Martens laces code for it
Here are some cyberpunk games that are actually cyberpunk IMHO:
-Red Strings Club
-Deus Ex (released 2000)
I had to deprecate Corebird from the Solus unstable repo today as a result of Twitter killing off their UserStream API ("retiring" it, in their words), officially tomorrow, thereby killing a plethora of third-party apps. So disappointed in the move by Twitter to do this, really enjoy Corebird as well as the numerous Android clients like Fenix and Talon.
I think it's about time I start promoting and encouraging people to switch to Mastodon, as well as starting to use it more heavily myself.
