Just discovered Invader Zim today, we never got this cartoon in France

So-Shel-ist @shel

@Siphonay oh....

You uh....
You were spared some Cultural Moments there....

@shel bad ones? I only just watched the first episode

@Siphonay it's generally agreed upon that Invader Zim itself wasn't... That bad... But the cultural response to it was... Difficult. To the point that the cartoonist who made it expressed making it as his greatest life regret. It inspired the 2004-2008 ""random humor" phenomenon which I think majorly contributed to "cringe culture" as a response. And like... Really it just made a bunch of children be kinda annoying which looking back as an adult is forgivable I guess

@shel ah I see... Well idk, I think I'll keep watching it to see if I still find it funny after a few episodes

I really like how 2000s it looks actually

@Siphonay it defined the second half of the 00s.

@shel @Siphonay we've all had a "*holds up spork* *runs away* " phase....

@modernmodron @shel reminds me of a Papa Roach song where one of the verses "ALL WE NEED IS A SPARK" but I keep hearing "ALL WE NEED IS A SPORK"

@Siphonay but when you were a child at the time it wasn't something you experienced as children being childish with a particularly annoying fad, it was you yourself doing stuff you soon were embarrassed and annoyed by....

And I think a lot of um.... "Childish adult nerds" may have grown out of direct Zim references but kept the uh... Affect... And you can notice it in the way they speak and make jokes. Like, speaking very dramatically all the time...
