Mastodon has the only "integrated" queer community I've ever been in; where people closer to the "lesbian" side of things and people closer to the "gay man" side of things not only freely interact, share space, and are friends; but people also freely move between those two sides/categories without controversy or it being a big deal.
It's really nice I like it.

@shel This is really interesting, I just came out mid-life and apart from a few IRL bi friends this is the only queer community I’ve ever been a part of period, this has been my *only* experience
@zigg congratulations then! I can't speak for older communities since I'm not in them but among younger people ime the communities tend to be pretty separate and hostile to each other (one moreso than the other...)

Mastodon also has the most age-diverse queer community I've ever been a part of. Which we all know is actually kind of a really big deal.
