it's so funny that media in russia are required to write "(forbidden in Russian Federation)" after every mention of ISIS. every time I see it I imagine men in suits clinking glasses of champagne after passing that law being like "Congratulations gentlemen, we just solved terrorism"

"Google is being sued for tracking people when they opt out"

In reality, it's not about google themselves, but about other sites using google-provided tracking services.

"hacker" "news" are saying this means it's a frivious lawsuit and google isn't at fault

frankly I don't care. Sue google for stupid shit they have no way of knowing about or doing. They created the tools to do it anyway. Who cares if it buries them in litigation. Good.

Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?

Because if it had four doors it would be a chicken sedan.

A web developer falls asleep in a train. As the train goes and each car's wheels make the characteristic double thud, the developer has a nightmare:

SafetyNet's hardware attestation will make hiding root in Magisk really hard

xda-developers.com/safetynet-h

Google is making it nearly impossible to hide root access on an Android device from their Google Apps API. Won't effect me since I've been using GrapheneOS with a locked bootloader and I don't use proprietary apps, but I bet a lot of android power users follow me. I also recognize that lots of people get work phones with apps they are coerced into installing by their employers that require these checks to be bypassed if you have root. This underlines the importance of having control over our devices and organizing against our employers control over our personal devices.

I have said it before but it is worth repeating: I find the Fediverse is filled with people with excellent self-taught computer skills, that would be an asset to any company, that are trapped in menial work. This is a major failing of our system.

I'm sure many already know about Mozilla's hypocracies, but this is a nice compendium of transgressions:

So use what? Crome? *barf* I think the problem goes deeper. We need a web that isn't so confounded to the point where no one, besides large corporations, can maintain a performant, usable and accessible web client. As long as it's this way we will continue to pay for the web with our privacy.
