did some work on NixOS-ifying my server configuration today, reverse-engineering my server's configuration and developing some of the underlying ideas and structure. NixOS provides most but not all of the services I am using right now, so I'm going to have to decide whether to write package modules for them or use Docker.
the structure and infrastructure I've built is starting to turn in to a complete system providing anyone willing to run NixOS or a Unix system, a "community in a box" where one or three nerds can support a convival of 10-50 folks on a socially-managed social hub.
I'd have to *build* that OS still, mine is a very specialized toolkit but there is a core OS distribution, knowledge management, best practices, and a site publisher, that are useful as a base platform for the sort of convival fluid vision i've been noodling on
it's definitely a cathedral.
