We always depend on each other. The question is if there are structures in place to support a peaceful transition between changes in governance and other important people. For witches.town there were no such structures in place. For other instances, there are.

Which is why federation still makes sense (at least it's not Twitter).
IDEA: How about incorporating #publickey #cryptography for, you know, identity validation? And not just for problems like witches.town, there's also the #deepfake thing and #Google's new #AI, Alexa getting hacked... there will be tons of problems forcing us to adopt #PKI.
So even with Federation, we should adopt PKI to say "yes, this is me alright!"
#PGP certificates for people are LONG OVERDUE.
