trans thoughts, personal
I still *love* being trans, because it has given me unique perspectives and the ability to re-frame my life and find purpose in ways which I'd never imagined possible. The second half of my life is a rebirth, no matter how much the difficulty.
Probably privilege has given me the spoons to appreciate that a bit better, but it's pleasant.
being trans, the social model of disability.
Been realizing that a lot of my feeling that when people say being trans sucks my knee-jerk reaction is to blame society has certain parallel to the Social Model of Disability.
That is, "being trans sucks" because:
* society treats you as less human because you don't look and act as 'normal'
* society fails to support you (including materially) in changing your body to be more in line with your gender identity
It's not perfect, especially when, without early intervention, there's some things you just can't practically change with current technology -- and some gender identities just aren't even within the range of things we can do -- but it begins to point to why, IMHO, it's better to be rage at society than feel sorry for yourself.
I know I'm not thinking original thoughts here, and I'm sure I'm missing some things that some trans folks may even find hurtful, feel free to criticize me.
