Don't buy Insta360 cameras
Do not buy any of Insta360's cameras.
Nobody's talking about it, but they mandate 'camera activation' using their mandatory mobile application. The camera will refuse to work until you connect it to a smartphone with their official mobile application and 'activate' it with private information.
For some reason it also demands your GPS coordinates as well - the app will refuse to run unless you give it full location permissions and ensure location is fully enabled in your device.
re: Don't buy Insta360 cameras
@efftoyz that's odd, I haven't had an issue using a bluetooth mouse with location disabled. Is that new for Android 10?
re: Don't buy Insta360 cameras
@polychrome Maybe not every device needs location permission. I remember blue tooth scales I bought once couldn't be paired unless you let app use location. It feels like I read it somewhere that you have to use location, maybe because of BT beacons or something. But yeah, really weird, that you can't use camera|scales in unknown location. :/

@polychrome Similar case with privacy with gimbals. Application for ZHIYUN won't run wihout permament internet connection and gps on.

@miklo that's incredible. Is there a gimbal camera that does not demand snooping? Is the excuse that "you want to stream"?

@polychrome GPS location is on Google, they made for some reason (which are obviously if you think about their private information gathering business model) that you can't connect bluetooth devices w/out enabling location.
