TFW when a power surge take out out your powerful desktop machine by the shutdown causing unrelenting kernel panics but at least Firefox Sync is a thing so I can use my laptop to recover the 300+ tabs with useful resources that I wanted to sort/save/read soon but my laptop and phone each also have 100s of tabs open that I first have to organize before I can do that :blob_dizzy_face:

Holy crap. Malware hidden in a strand of DNA hijacks the computer that analyzes that particular gene sequence.

We're going to live in a very weird world man.

I made a flow chart of which #Mastodon posts end up in which timelines!

So, you can see how each instance will have a different local timeline, and even a slightly different federated timeline - and you can see why the federated timeline moves so much faster than the local one, too.

All it costs to fulfill the average person's needs for digital services is a $5 per month VPS instance. It's even cheaper if you buy a single board computer and host your services at home.

We've been letting companies steal our personal data and sell it to the highest bidder and destroying democracy in the process all to save what? A coffee a month?

This is one of the worst deals in history.

@cypnk @yogthos I'd say, let there be cryptocurrencies (with incresingly suffocating stranglehold of nation states, we do need an international, Internet-native fully independent money system), but the computing power shouldn't go to waste. If beside confirmation we can use this same power in parallel to make useful computations - we MUST do it. We have a lot of complex tasks to crack without introducing complexity artificially. And on the othef hand, research should be rewarded and stimulated.
