I’ll admit, I’m one of those cranky atheist types that at best begrudgingly tolerates religion, but images like this always give me some sense of....spiritual fervor? It’s an emotion that I don’t have the vocabulary for.
That black dot in the middle isn’t technically the black hole, it’s the event horizon and then some more, due to the way light bends around it, and because light that misses the horizon is getting bent in and drawn into the black hole.
