I'm considering making some tutorials to help students learn basic coding stuff by making clones of games. I have some generic ideas for clones (Galaga, Pac-Man, some kind of platformer, SimCity, etc.)

What other games stand out to you as good candidates for this kind of thing?

@octojon Sokoban and Tetris come to mind as classics that are easy/rewarding to demake/remake. For 2D physics Incredible Machine might be fun! Text adventures have a lot of room for interesting data structures and language processing without worrying about graphics.

Fun math/rending potential in an SNES Mario Kart-style 2.5D racing game, and of course can't forget the classic QBasic intro games, Nibbles and Gorillas (Snake/Scorched Earth).
