hey everybody! just wanted to let people know that thanks to everybody who contributed to #500pieces we saved THREE TERABYTES of open, cc-licensed images from 500px over only two days!

You can view the hard work of the volunteers at the IA collection, including dozens of people who heard about it specifically from mastodon. Thanks to @eq for providing the initial mastodon call for action!
@MightyPork each of the 52 photos you see is a thumbnail representing 25 gb of data. we've still got 34-ish items left to upload

@MightyPork they're all stored in warc files, so the full webpage with metadata/etc is there and is currently being ingested into the wayback machine.
i'm told people are currently interested in working on plans for indexing/better ease of access in general, but i'm not sure what those are, sorry.

@MightyPork we also have a 50gb sitemap file that describes every photo we uploaded, someone could do something interesting with that.
