Windows Update, a mysterious component on Microsoft operating systems - on a new system, every time you have finished installing a batch of updates, it always reports a new batch of more pending updates awaiting to be installed, and it can take an entire day to make it to the end. And often, it ends abruptly when you realized some updates can never be installed successfully, ending this cycle.

@niconiconi I remember towards the end of Windows 8's lifetime, reformatting and updating was quite the affair. I would check on it every hour or so to install new updates, let it go, and then I would go do something else. There was usually a point where I just needed to sleep, so hoped it would handle things itself at night. It didn't.

I was amazed at how many updates required previous ones so that it took more than one or two cycles to be fully up-to-date.
