There's no legitimate use case for software patents. If your company writes software, there's copyright for that. But software patents stifle innovation because an independent software developer can come up with an idea to later find out that the idea has already been patented by some corporation.
Furthermore, software parents don't help at all when a machine you need to repair requires patented software.
