I find the emacs vs vim thing really weird, as it's such a great divide that has peristed for so long. Have any enlightening articles about vim? I really don't know how it works or why it's comparable to emacs, but I'm kinda interested.

"Practical Vim" pragprog.com/book/dnvim/practi is a tech manual.

It's "emacs vs. vi", Vim's just the most popular reimplementation of Bill Joy's vi. The very short "why?" is vi's an efficient editor for touch typists with just a few commands, and gets faster & more efficient the more commands you learn.

Emacs is a slow lisp interpreter with a slow editor, that does many things poorly.
