So, can you name me one game that was announced that didn't do one of the following:
1) Add on to an established franchise
2) Spend most of its allotted time talking about graphics improvements
3) Was a previous game that was revamped / remixed with better graphics and sound
4) Is a port from another platform
5) Is a new take on something that was done from a previous generation's game catalog.
I haven't seen one ounce of E3 coverage but I'll bet every game announced is in that list
@craigmaloney Deathloop and Ghostwire both look unique. Bunch of smaller games are new, too.
@mdhughes Deathloop looks like yet-another FPS with a twist, and Ghostloop looks like the ground that was tread with many of the horror games that have been on other platforms.
@craigmaloney If you're defining "new" that broadly there hasn't been a new game ever. Pong is just table tennis. Colossal Cave Adventure is D&D. Doom is Wolfenstein 3D which is Wolfenstein which is Mario.
@craigmaloney Deathloop's two assassins fighting over a time loop is unique; the closest thing I know of in any genre is John Barnes' Kaleidoscope Century, and that's very different.
Ghostwire's doing a Resident Evil thing but open world and moodier rather than jump scare, and seems more investigation than combat. We only have one trailer, but it's not another shooter.
@mdhughes And that's one of the things that bugs me about this industry; it's iterative. Those sound like really neat games, but you can trace the lineage back to other well known games.
Ghostloop sounds quite cool though. I hope they really make it open world and give the players ways to really influence the world.
@craigmaloney Every art form's iterative. There hasn't been a "new" movie since Metropolis. All rock 'n roll is the blues played 4/4. Cakes are just bread with more egg & sugar.
