There used to be small outdoor rooms you could enter, pay money, and have a zoom call with someone. It used a special banana-shaped speaker/microphone combo you held up to your head, kind of like a phone, but the microphone was much more directional. As a result, the audio quality was quite good, but there was no video component. They were phased out when telecom companies realized pedestrians aren't a profitable enough market and pivoted to car phones
