"Can you put a GPU on a MOTHERBOARD?!?"

Yeah man, Nintendo did it in 1983. It's called the Ricoh RP2C0* picture processing unit. They just slapped that beauty right next to the ol' CPU. A lot like you suggest in your thumbnail! I don't know why you're making a face like someone just told you it can only be done with alien technology

@matt YouTube cooking videos are like this too, "can you grill a CHICKEN on a BEER CAN???" ...yeah, that's been in cookbooks since at least the 60s

@Louisa Even I know about beer can chicken, and the only cookbook I've read was bonus content for a webcomic in 2003

@matt I guess presenting all this stuff like it's new gets the clicks

@matt

Didn't a lot of old motherboards have GPUs on them?

My old Mac clones were awesome because even if you took the video card out you could still use the onboard while you were troubleshooting or whatever.

@billyjoebowers Yeah, CPUs have had basic integrated graphic hardware for decades. I think his point is that there's some motherboard with a separate chip socket so you can improve graphics performance without needing to install a dedicated graphics card or replace the CPU, but that's not a new idea either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@matt or like, most laptops
