Idea: An Earth Genasi ship captain.
You'd think that they'd be incredibly uncomfortable being on the open sea, away from solid ground. Were this any run-of-the-mill Earth Genasi then you'd probably be right.

A long time ago, Captain Nora was like this too; however in her youth as a young woman she happened across a dashing swashbuckler, Madeline Farseer.
During their travels they quickly became good friends, and eventually lovers. It was Madeline that introduced Nora to seafaring, and while it took a long time for her to get used to the idea, she forced herself to endure for Madeline's sake.

One day however, their ship was attacked by an exceptionally large Aboleth. During the encounter Madeline was slain and the Aboleth escaped.
Nora now travels the sea, relentlessly searching for the Aboleth that slew her love.
