The program would be quite simple: public ownership of housing acquired or built with government loans though run by local for-profit or nonprofit property managers rented at market prices. The only requirements would be move in, and pay rent

The idea of paying for any basic human need (in this case shelter) is a terrible thing, however publically owned housing as a theory is better than the current system. As more housing becomes publically owned, the larger sway the public has on price (hopefully trending to zero)


The open market for housing has turned into a dire situation, affordable first time buy houses of generations past no longer exists in the significant quantities. Developers build houses that will gain the largest profit.

The end result is more would be first time home buyers are left to rent due to it being the only afforable action to them, while rent hikes drive lower income renters out of their homes and communities
