This is an example of how investing in "open" systems pays back.

A little more than three years ago I bought a Galago from System76. After being using it for more than two years straight every day for several hours as both my work computer & for my personal stuff the battery is starting to decay, so I want to replace it.

System76 has repair guides. A 3 year old could follow the steps. And while they don't list the components they use, after opening the laptop it was very easy to identify the battery model, a very standard one very easy to source from different places.

I just ordered the replacement from a UK retailer for 50$.

What is your experience, apple fanboys?
