Virtue's Last Reward was stupid and bad and that's really all I have to say about that unless someone wants to hear the specifics.

overall good i guess? was good at the time. probably not necessary anymore

unlike a lot of old AAA titles i can see why this was considered good at the time although i’m not sure art hasn’t advanced past it since. the difficulty and weight of movement is really good and clearly prefigures “slow” games like Dark Souls and Breath of the Wild. however i think the plot might have been done better by the infamous Prince of Persia 2008. Still, it’s rare that i can say that the gamelike bits only feel stapled on because a suit demanded it after seeing the finished product (time attack, for instance)

Today was our first proper mission in Lancer. I take credit for the planning and patience that got us through without even entering combat, but the big win goes to our tank, who did his level best to take that role into noncombat by distracting the entire station with intentional Karen levels of asking to speak to the manager’s security’s manager while I hacked together some permission for us to leave the station. We all fell over laughing in VC as he escalated this, demanding that “Sid Violence promised me the hot springs tour!” on a mining station.

a common theme i’m noticing in my reviews of games is that often i think they needed to be a visual novel instead, or otherwise less “interactive”, because the interactive parts are badly designed

games are really all i'm qualified to talk about i guess

hitman: blood money. well, first off, and somewhat remarkably for a game called "hitman", i killed about as many total people as the *first* victim was responsible for killing through negligence and cost-cutting, over the course of the whole game.

however the killing is very personal and close-up unlike mass murder games like uncharted or borderlands. on the one hand this makes some of it hard to watch -- the first target begs the player character rather pathetically not to kill him (and you have to anyway). it's very much a murder sandbox. this is counterweighed somewhat by the fact that *all* the targets (again, except said first guy) are rich scumbags (white supremacists, rival assassins, drug lords, sexual traffickers)

if the game leaned harder into those politics, i might have liked it unreservedly. but it's somewhat hard to get through.

so is this "destiny" thing worth playing

9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors was a fun romp! I mean apart from the gruesome deaths. But it was a nice ride.
