What Techniques of High Magic failed to drop in was the term Gematria and the standard encoding of the Hebrew alphabet, so letters above yod start incrementing in 10s and then beyond qop (sorry I’m working from a very disparate set of transliteration here) increment in 100s.

Last night I realised that if you follow and extrapolate the Hermetic Qabalah planet associations for the Tree of Life beyond Saturn it effectively predicts that nobody can agree whether Pluto is a planet or not. Then I got distracted and made my previous toot about how Uranus' symbol looks like an anus.

@rats was doing a bit of reading around vanity onion address mining and an article mentioned vanity GPG keys and now I’m wondering whether trying to discover divine messages in GPG public keys would be a thing and whether you could then consider the private keys as relics… I think this cryptodivinity idea is super interesting.

@grimmware at least it's not Pluto, which appears to have been selected by APL programmers

I’m sorry but the symbol for Uranus looks like NASA did a competition on the internet and then let people vote for their favourite and then 4chan heard about it.

The sass is in the alt text.

Does anyone here cast hexes? I have a small figurine of a person who would deserve it if it worked and I have no problem training my hatred on if it doesn’t and I’d like to understand methodologies that people have actually used.

Any other kinds of ritual that involve a representation of the target person you’d like to see launched into the sun are also of interest.

Oh would you look at that Tim Berners-Lee has just officially jumped the shark and there's a crypto token to prove it.

From the BBC:
"Why an NFT? Well, it's a natural thing to do as when you're a computer scientist and when you write code and have been for many years," said Sir Tim in press material issued by Sotheby's.

No Tim, you don't get to tar all software developers with your attitudes towards ownership.

divination-blockchain where instead of boring regular PoW where you are mining hashes with a prefix that is a sequence of 0s you are mining hashes that begin with various divine messages and whichever one gets submitted first is the action that the chain takes

Every time I see a criticism of a low-resource technology as "people who are nostalgic for a time they weren't even part of" I can't help but feel the total blindness to high resource usage software that be fast and efficient if it actually targeted the platform it runs on being a driving force of the upgrade cycle. Essentially the counter-argument to that is market cap and not spending more time on the code to make it more efficient.

So these people are basically nostalgic for the riches they're never going to have?

If you create a blog post exclusively to complain about a technology, especially one created with no profit motive, maybe consider that you're not the intended audience before publishing.

Everyone on the internet is apparently convinced that anything that's not designed for them is useless.

@oppen I don't want to add too much extra noise, but isn't it crazy how it's necessary now to put all these conversational safeguards before asking for anything.

I just need like, 3 months of a solid work schedule but working in the GrimmLoft to lay the foundations of my long path towards having a Cyber Wizard Yurt at EMF one year.

The idea is that you come in to play with my occult devices and then I’m generally upsetting and disturbing at you until you leave again.

I don’t know what’s happening with all the “undefined” in the translation but the random text generator is spitting out some terrifying shit to be auto-translating to Akkadian and therefore cuneiform script.

Big mood.

All those blog posts about "why did plan9 fail" and "the second system effect" only understand it by the measure of property and what you can get people to pay for. There's very little awareness of the execution of an idea as a success in of itself, regardless of what follows.

Increasingly realizing that plan9 is the answer to a lot of my existential woes, simply because it was designed as an attempt at implementing some paradigms that the authors felt would be good to explore instead of being a product with an audience.

It is a beautiful foil for exploring my neuroses and ideas and relearning how to share my experiences.

I propose 3 laws that will solve all issues we all have with corporations

A corporation may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

A corporation must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

A corporation must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

If you don't start out with a clear space for your work, your work wasn't worth tidying for.

Ritual is far more important than I ever realized.

Today I tried out exporting TarotFS and accessing from Linux with 9pfuse and holy shit it works. Writing config to the ctl file doesn’t appear to work but seeing the same spreads mirrored on both hosts is pretty awesome.

Looking forward to connecting my pi back up again and just running it as a network service.
