Suzanne Treister's Tarot deck:

"HEXEN 2.0 looks into histories of scientific research behind government programmes of mass control, investigating parallel histories of countercultural and grass roots movements. HEXEN 2.0 charts, within a framework of post-WWII U.S. governmental and military imperatives, the coming together of scientific and social sciences through the development of cybernetics, the history of the internet, the rise of Web 2.0 and increased intelligence gathering, and implications for the future of new systems of societal manipulation towards a control society. "

update - turns out when I unseated the ROM chip the first time the screwdriver slipped and severed a trace on the board *under* the ROM chip and I did all of my visual inspection with the chip inserted!

I've bridged it with some solder and it's booting again, so expect some work again in the coming months!

This toot was brought to you by a technology that manages to spin up the fans on a modern computer whilst attempting to solve a problem that should be able to work with no sweat on hardware from 10 years ago.

You know even if we can get some sense hammered into the energy consumption of cryptocurrencies we'll still be dealing with shitware like Slack and Discord boiling oceans in order for the human race to have...

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

I installed an app to give me periodic affirmations in order to help me maintain perspective but it keeps telling me shit like “My potential to succeed is infinite” and I’m like yeah no shit living up to that is what makes me anxious in the first place.

Good morning! Remeber to overcome your barriers today if for no other reason than out of spite 👍🌻

New hypothesis: Nobody actually learns anything from aphorisms, we just really enjoy the succinct and poetic communication of an idea we're already invested in.

So probably don't try to teach people a concept by saying pithy sounding things to them, explain with plain language and examples instead? I say this because I can remember plenty of times in my life when someone has tried to change my perspective with a catchy motto, and I've only really hooked on to the relevance and truth in what they were saying many years later.

I think the aphorisms probably help more in focusing the mind on a concept more than they do in introducing it.

This hypothesis is from gut feels and 0 evidence.

“Win, the Cold War security expert, ever watchful, had treated paranoia as though it were something to be domesticated and trained. Like someone who’d learned how best to cope with chronic illness, he never allowed himself to think of his paranoia as an aspect of self. It was there, constantly and intimately, and he relied on it professionally, but he wouldn’t allow it to spread, become jungle. He cultivated it on its own special plot, and checked it daily for news it might bring: hunches, lateralisms, frank anomalies.”

I so terribly badly want a MNT Reform but all of my computers are currently working "well enough" that it would be wasteful to buy another one.

I mentioned on a video chat on Friday that I can draw a more-or-less anatomically correct human skull from memory, so I was challenged to do so.

I subsequently played the first couple of bars of “Oh Susanna” on a comedically small harmonica and got called a “renaissance man” so that’s the high point of my life passed.

Drone doom shitpost

⬤))) BWOOOOOOOOAAAAGH

I bought an egregious and ultimately fetishistic object which is not only beautifully constructed but is also the manifest representation (to my mind) of tulpamancy of inanimate objects because it was fictional (in the literary sense of the word) before it became real.

However, because I love my small corner of the fedi and how it includes pretty much 0 ads or embrace of a materialistic worldview, I'm not going to tell you what it is hahah.

@neauoire Hey, I just read your usesthis.com interview and saw that you're using a Planck with an SBC on 9front...

What firmware are you using? My QMK boards (including a Planck) won't enumerate properly on 9front over USB on a Pi 4.

I've avoided debugging until I've actually used the system for something creative or I just get lost in the weeds, which means I'm stuck using my Filco.

Emotional woes

I hate it when my best friend is having trouble dealing with life because there's very little I can do to help and that causes me distress which I then can't talk to anybody about because they're not actually *my* problems to be sharing with others and normally if I have a problem I talk to her about it and she makes me feel better.
