When you've got a useful hobby it seems obvious: everyone should be able to cycle, grow their own food, run a web server, take an active interest in local politics, repair their appliances... The world would undeniably be a better place if they did, so why don't they? It's fun to do and the skills are easy to pick up.
The reason is not, in fact, because Vested Interests are creating barriers but because not everyone is as keen on your hobby as you are. And that's OK.

Capitalism uses forced specialisation as an instrument of control, but specialisation is in fact good. Being good at one thing and doing it for other people frees time and energy for other people to do what they're good at. More stuff gets done and everyone is happier. So do what you're good at and use your skills to help others, but don't assume your preferences are universal or judge people as lesser for not sharing them.
