this laptop is called "fearless"
the background is a baby me scared out of my mind on a friend's dirtbike
yeah, i'm really enjoying fedora silverblue
it was a little awkward at first trying to understand how to tweak an "immutable" operating system, but really with flatpaks and distrobox, it works really well
it's nice to have a system that is hard to break, and easy to roll back, and having separate containers for different versions of compilers and stuff makes development so much easier!
food (vegan +)
sometimes people tell me about the health benefits of a vegan diet, and like... that's cool, but i don't care about that for a second... i just want to stuff my face in a more ethical and ecological way if at all possible
i don't know if i forgot how much of a hassle arch linux was on desktops or if i simply had way more patience for linux tweaking ten years ago, but i've bailed and switched to fedora instead
i have a new computer arriving soon, and will be using linux on it (probably arch)
i've not used linux on the (lap|desk)top since uni, anyone got any tip and tricks for setting things up nice in 2022?
i want a gui, have used tiling wms in the past and wouldn't mind doing that again, but i'm open to all recommendations
at one point the kitchen looked like this
we tried to remove some random panelling above the cupboards, and discovered that the beams were not structural, so the drop ceiling started to come down
we didn't intend to replace the drop ceiling that early, but this forced our hand, and tbh we don't regret it
Drinking caffeine, rolling 1d6 for mental health points and then flipping a coin to determine whether to add or subtract them
For a workshop about the minimalist constructed language "Toki Pona", I attempted to put the entire grammar on one page, and the entire vocabulary on the other side! What do you think? What questions do you have as you're reading it? https://morr.cc/toki-pona-cheat-sheet/
ranting about bad tech job
I think one of the things that sends me for a loop with this job, is that the higher ups aren't even good at being ruthless capitalists.
The company is screwing over its customers, burning out its developers, haemorrhaging talent every week, but mostly because they have no fucking idea what they're doing.
Buying unprofitable companies with busted tech stacks and making no plans to overhaul anything. Deciding to try and get on the NFT grift *now*. Changing plans almost every week so half the work we do is just thrown out. Struggling so bad with internal communication that entire projects get killed because they're built on a misunderstanding or another team is already building an equivalent.
Like absolutely fuck the money-first mindset these companies operate under, but at least cut-throat immoral capitalism *makes sense*. We have no strategy, just a handful of assholes who fell backwards into a position of power, incapable of recognising their own incompetence, writing roadmaps...
I am quitting this job, two weeks left to endure.
Not sure what I'll be up to next, but if it's more programming, I'm going to do a lot more due diligence trying to find a place that isn't as FUBAR as this one.
Rather than make new devices that will turn into e-waste after the event, we're recycling old price tags into networked conference badges. https://github.com/osresearch/eink-pricetags
i've started riding a bike to work, so that's nice
