Bonus: after doing some research, this tree is not technically considered an invasive species in Michigan, but there are anecdotal reports of it acting the same way it does in the many places that have banned it.

@flowerysong Callery pear! They're very pretty this time of year, and the leaves are *gorgeous* in the fall. I can see why people plant them. But yeah, the flowers smell not-nice and there's the whole invasiveness risk thing.
They're also pretty brittle and tend to start falling apart after 20 years or so.
