interesting thing that doesn't really happen today anymore: translated versions of German pop music for the international market
@vfrmedia why would they do that? I can see the rationale behind something like Major Tom being translated into English for the massively larger market but not in reverse
@elomatreb maybe to get airplay on public service broadcasters with quotas for German language music? It was certainly very popular in the 1980s (and remains so on Dutch pirate radio stations, where I've heard most of these covers), although even quite recently Voxxclub did 500 Meilen, a cover of the Proclaimers in Boarisch...
The English version of Major Tom was even shown on kids TV in the UK..
