i am tired of people going "gmos are untested, let's wait a few generations and see if anything happens".
first of all, they _are_ tested, and pretty much all peer-reviewed studies say they're safe.
second, how does anyone imagine running a human study across several generations? that's at least 60 years.
third, no other new technology had to pass the "let's wait a few generations" test. we didn't have to wait half a century before adopting the steam engine. or cars. or computers. or the internet.
We probably should have waited though.
Cars and steam engines contributed massively to global warming and destruction of Indigenous lands.
If anything, we need foster a global culture of review before mass adoption is allowed.
@devurandom add to that the fallacy that random modifications of the plants or animals by viruses, crossbreeding or random mutations are 'natural' and thus safe?🙄
I think that the problem with GMO is not the technology but the companies doing this for shareholder profit, like so many other things that go wrong in our world currently 😑.
