@chr
so first things first if you haven't seen Koyaanisqatsi i really gotta recommend you do that. not sure where to get it legit but it's easy to find...elsewhere.
i will also recommend you not read this thread because i feel like it's important to be really, really confused by this movie the first time you watch it
because it wants you to be confused. it does not want to be viewed casually. it is a hardcore 90 minute essay on all of modern civilization
@chr I intend to follow your advice to not read this thread until I've seen the movie, any chance of getting a spoilers CW?
@chr 10/10 would flail desperately
@chr
That was a great thread! Have you checked out the other movies in the Qatsi trilogy?

@chr it's not quite as haunting when you do this though https://twitter.com/ultrabrilliant/status/712364412607266816?lang=en
@chr Re: cinematography.
While everybody and their dog is doing #timelapse lately (Breaking Bad is just one prominent example), #Koyaanisqatsi was a major stepping stone towards the timelapse aesthetics of today.
@chr I agree. koyaanisqatsi is a great movie. Together with its other two parts Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi it shows the three columns of nature and human development. Love it!
@chr I recently found the DVD for free in front of a swiss house on a 'take what you want' table. I was so happy.
@chr I've already had this film on my harddisk but haven't got the time to watch it yet, now I'm trying so hard to hold myself from reading your explanations, it seems to be really interesting. I will favorite it and read it later after watching it.
Hopefully you will do more of this Late Night Rambling Film Analysis in the future :relaxed:
but let's build up to that. Koyaanisqatsi has some beautiful cinematography -- most of the movie is just gorgeous. also the music is fantastic, Phillip Glass's composition really brings it all together.
but don't be fooled, Koyaanisqatsi isn't fucking around. it opens with this shot. https://cybre.space/media/LSI1ky_ZfTFHy40Dx_U
