pop songs from the 80s that end by fading out a loop of the chorus are the musical equivalent of an uncomfortably long laugh at a joke that was pretty good, but not THAT funny

They also lack closure. My favorite song with a looping chorus is The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel, because it makes you think it's going to fade out and then has a proper ending.
