@bruno I'm on an anti-advertising bender on Facebook. I tag every advert post as 'violent or illegal' so that they need to waste the time of a real employee to view the post and see if it is.
I also lie a lot on those Facebook quizzes.
@borup @bruno true that. But with so much data flow through FB it's near Impossible to give up cold turkey. I have a rule to not patronise any business that floods me with unwanted advertising. If I need something, I'll research it first rather than trusting advertising that tells me I need something.

This was, immediately and entirely, oversimplified into "Facebook keeps people from talking/hearing people who disagree with them." This is not what Facebook does! What Facebook does is feed people the content that will maximize engagement and keep people hooked on Facebook specifically. It will avoid, for example, giving you too much content you might like from a single source because you might leapfrog Facebook and just start reading their website instead.
