current status: blender refuses to let me texture paint on one specific surface, which, yes, has been unwrapped and has a material + texture assigned

if i assign it a different material it works why is my material not paintable

no matter how many times i delete, save, reload, and recreate the material β€” even if the material i recreate is default af β€” it still can't be painted on. all other materials are paintable.

i figured it out. somehow enabled masking and set the mask to a texture that didn't exist, without having ever opened the panel where you set that stuff. so uh. idk
